I recently tried photographing some red poppies the other day and the pics didnt come out too great. Either the pics were dark and unfocused or they were too bright and lacking in true colors. I have a canon powershot sx100 IS and it seems like reds have often given me some problems with this camera. Anyone have any suggestions?

I dont really have any suggestions other than messing around with the standard ISO settings. Or your camera may have the automatic settings. My small camera has a setting to enhance "autumn leaves" I use that when I am photographing red objects. Attached is a photo I had origionally taken with the "autumn leaves" setting. I just add the black and white background to it. I hope you enjoy.

Hey Glo,

Try to set your camera on manual and "bracket" your exposures, so take one at f5.6 f6.1 f7.3 and on. Also try and keep your shutter speed up ( 125 or higher if possible), as the lower it is, the more your images will be susceptible to shake causing the blur.

Also try and use a tripod or some other way to brace the camera , along with don't get too close, since sometimes you will go beyond the lenses focal distance and the images will all be blurry. If your camera has a burst mode you can also shoot a bunch of images , then that will help with the focus on at least a few pics.

I hope that helps?-ter
